A Happy Newbie:)

Hi Folks,

I just wanted to say that this forum is awesome!! I have had Proshow Producer for almost a year and I have learned so many cool things in the past week reading the great topics from this forum. You all seem so helpful and willing to share your knowledge. That is really great!! I do have a couple of basic questions that have been bothering me for the past year that I'm sure one of you will be able to help me with.

1. It seem that whenever I use proshow producer it disables my screen saver and forces me to reboot to enable it again. Has anyone else ever had this problem and do you have a resolution. I am running dual monitors if that makes a difference.

2. What exactly are the .pxc files that Proshow Producer creates?

One more thing. I recently purchased the puzzle template from Choice Backgrounds and it was really cool. What I did not like was having to save all 24 pieces manually. I decided to make a photoshop cs3 action for it. If nobody else has shared this action I would be willing to do so. Can someone explain to me how I might share something on this forum.

Thanks again for all of your great help.

Joe

Hi Joe. As for question #1, it may be operating system specific. I am using Vista Home Premium and do not have this problem. I am also using dual monitors and can switch back and forth with no ill effects. Do you use "Ultramon"? It is the best dual monitor utility out there...

#2, These are Proshow cache files and will have the same file name as your
slide show (.psh) file and they are located in the folder where you save
your show. For instance, if you have "thisshow.psh" then you will have
also have, in the same folder, a "thisshow.pxc" file and a
"thisshow_psdata" folder. It is safe to delete the .pxc file but not the .psh file or you
will lose your show.

hope this helps, ~al

Yes, I have seen my screen saver get disabled although there
seem to be more than just one thing that does it and I have not
bothered to track them down. Proshow may well be one of them.

As far as the pxc files go, Al's information is correct, but a couple
more tidbits about those files:

- if you delete them (especially with a bigger show), be aware that
Proshow may "hang" for a bit the next time it opens -- it needs to
rebuild the pxc file (no problem, just be aware it will cause it to
have to "think" for a bit).

- sometimes the pxc file gets corrupted - when it does, you can
have some strange things going on as far as timing, slides etc.
delete the pxc file and let it rebuild next time you open proshow
(always delete it after you have exited proshow)

Thanks for your quick response.

I do have a couple of more questions:

1. I watched a show from Dave Fitzpatrick that shows his Chalk Sketch Action tutorial. Can you tell me if he offers that action for download or for sale? I did a google search on his name and the action name and it came up with no hits. The work he does is unbelievable. I'm a photographer and I would love to give the Chalk effect a try.

2. This question is regarding copyright laws with music. If I do a show from someone and I charge them, can I put the orignal artists music in the show if they supply the original CD music to me verifying that they purchased it. I've always been confused about the entire music thing and would appreciate any helpful input.

Thanks again,

Joe

For #1, I think you are refering to his "visisketch" program he is working on.
The following links will give you that information:

As far as #2 goes, check out the Music Discussion section under
the Misc. heading - there are many threads and the answer seems
to depend on a) day of the week, b) phase of the moon, c) if
you get caught and d) lots of legal stuff that is very unclear -- happy
reading
