Need HELP setting time-length for captions

Can someone help me figure out how to adjust the length of each caption on a slide show. For this particular slide show, the first photo has a 30 second length and I want to overlay a succession of short captions but I only want each caption to last a couple of seconds. I only see time setting options for setting the length of the slide, but none for the caption itself. Thanks in advance!
