Beauty in a grain of sand

A friend sent me a link to this news article that shows a number of photos of grains of sand that all but blow the mind. Looking at beach sand, it seems like it's nothing but tiny dots of tan, but apparently it's a whole lot more than that:

Nice shots and really interesting description of how he gets the shots to look like that, not something I'd want to tackle but it's very cool to look at and know someone figured out how to do it.

Beautiful tiny jewels. Magnified 250x. We're sure it were under the microscope to view sand with all these colors. Quetzal :o
