March 08 Challenge - Rome Revisited

Postby trulytango » Mon Mar 03, 2008 11:44 am

Hi everyone

Here is my offering for March... images are taken from a short break in 2006, in and around the historical centre of Rome. The show is based upon some sepia toned photo-montages I did in Photoshop following the trip - and it certainly brought back some memories for me this afternoon.

THAT WAS GREAT. Your show is certainly over the top.
This is a category that I am not too good at. You have raised the bar IMHO.
Thanks for posting.

Iris, I watched your show 1-1/2 times, the 1/2 part because I needed to go back to watch very carefully to see how you blended the cut-outs into the framed images. You did it with finesse. As a matter of fact, you showed a lot of finesse. I really liked the subtle images inside of other images, something I'm still not very great at doing.

Well done!

Very smooth Iris - Wow, you blended things so well. I love the photos, ahhh, Italy, one of my favorite places!

Very nice job!

Wow...what a cracker.

Wasn't what i was expecting when you said it was based on some sepia toned montages. I loved the effects with the statues mixed onto the different backgrounds....they really showed the statues off.

A great show.

Iris,

Intrigued on many levels - love the images of Rome,
marvel at the effects and the execution, and in
awe of the creative mind which imagined this show.

Truly Amazing Tango!

Hi guys

I'm really flattered by all the good comments... I had fun doing this show - because I was able to combine ProShow with my other great distraction, Photoshop. Glad you liked the results.

Barbara, I framed my original montage images and they turned out really well... luckily I still had the full psd files so I was just able to go back today and lift the individual layers - that's why the cut outs sit well in size etc. I did try to give an impression of all the layers I typically used in the 3rd montage (Pantheon plus Marcus Aurelius on his horse) but Producer only has layers and transparency, not blending modes like Photoshop, so I could only get so far before I had to place the finished psd on the top.

And Sandy... nice shot of the Castel Angelo - looks like we could've been in Rome on the same day!

Thanks again for watching

Iris

I loved it.

I am slowly grinding away at Photoshop Elements, and the collage is my current project. I too loved the cut outs. I am working on something similar on some sports photos. I love seeing how it can be incorporated into Proshow.

Thanks for the inspiration!

Now, back to my Missing Manual. (Brundage)

Great Show! I can’t decide whether this show is “Over the Top” of the Aventine Hill or the Palatine Hill?

Either way it looks great!

I was feeling kinda seasick, but the crowd called out for more...........

Hi Reeselite, Cary, weldr and Brenda!

Thanks for taking time out to watch. I appreciate your comments.

Reeselite - from the very beginning, I was taught to keep a copy of the background/starting jpeg image of any project I began. That way, the layers in the layers palette in Photoshop can easily be transferred into Proshow and will line up seamlessly and give you some really good effects.

Looking forward to seeing your sports show!

Regards
Iris

Iris,
Your shows are really making me want to return to Rome and Italy. (The image in my post is from the web.)
In 2005, we biked in Tuscany by the Sea (Talamone, Capablio, Giglio Island, Magliaro, Pareta, Pitiigliano etc.)
and arrived in Rome the day the Pope died.
Here's a link to the show if you want to have a look.

Signora Iris,

Rome from a different angle. Splendid presentation. Appropriate choice of fonts for the intro and awesome music.
Technique is fine.
Allow me to offer you tips which you may not endorse. As sepia plays an important part of the show, I would limit the use of black backgrounds for the initial few slides. You have salvaged one or two photos which were not up to scratch with great imagination. I like the water colour of Castel Sant Angelo, I would clone out the dark river bank on the original.
Some cutout would have benefited from 2px of feather to soften the edges. The finish paid tribute to the fine music and faded to black ( the same way it started) This might have been a fraction of a second too long. You might use that time to insert a black slide in the very beginning just beforethe text.
I think these small improvements will push it closer to 100%

May we have some more!
Regards
pd
