hiccup & stutter

Postby thegills on Wed Feb 03, 2010 11:49 pm

ok...I've used Gold for quite sometime and recently upgraded to producer. I'm not an expert, but neither am I a novice. A few weeks ago I bought stylepacks 2 & 3....in anticipation for a wedding reception slideshow I'm putting together for friends. Can anyone tell me why my show stutters & hiccups on some of these styles...very frustrating :(

Hi and welcome to the forum,

Without knowing more about your PC (RAM and OS), it's hard to say what's causing this problem.
Some of the Photodex styles are pretty heavy on the computer resources. Add to that a long show (maybe ?) and the sizes of your pictures (maybe ?) and some video (maybe ?).

You could try the following:
Resize your pictures to smaller sizes.
Try the same styles outside of your show, in a new show and/or shorter show. Do you notice the same problems?

Also, have you used the recommended times of these styles (given in the description of the styles) ? or have you changed them? Or maybe changed the transitions times?

Welcome to the forum.

You do not state where you are seeing this stuttering. Is it within the Proshow preview, or on your final output? (DVD?). It is quite possible that a complex multilayer style will hesitate during internal preview but be OK on final output. During preview your computer is having to calculate what the next picture is at a rate of 25 frame/sec in real time. Your computer may not have the 'steam' to keep up with this.

I'm siding with Mona and Brian. Producer 4.1 itself requires a fair amount of oomph from your computer. Add to that the complexity of some of the styles and you'll find that Producer will bog down quickly if you don't have the necessary computer power.

I've noticed the same thing on my computer. Heck, I've been complaining (sorta) for awhile because I typically push PSP to its limits anyway. With the development of styles that have 15 to 30 or more layers, the use of masks, the use of modifiers, etc, I found my system really bogged down. To find out how things actually looked I had to upload to YouTube (or just create a video) to see it w/o the stutters (which could be really bad).

I got a faster and more capable computer (fast, lots of memory, fast video card, etc). What used to be stutter-prone is now smooth. PSP loads MUCH quicker and deleting layers no longer takes forever (as it did sometimes). If you can afford it you might consider upgrading your system. Otherwise, it's something you'll have to live with until you do.

thank you! I had anticipated it was something like that. the hiccups occur on some of the slides where i've chosen more complicated styles :/ unfortunately, they didn't correct themselves when I made a test DVD. I'll take the suggestions! thanks :)
