Flash version on website but no slider controls

Postby debngar » Wed Jun 17, 2009 4:05 pm

Is there something I've missed in the selection of output to flash for videos to play on my website? I'd like to be able to have a slider control, not just a play and stop button etc.

Is there a way to get that? I have the box checked to show video playback controls but that just gets me a play and stop button - no progress or slider control.

See in this example:

Hi Deb,
I am searching this out also. I can get the controls by changing the flash "skin" in DW if I output a Flash7 show (poor quality). Can't seem to find the way to change the higher output. Checking and rechecking code and testing and testing. Will let you know if I find a way.

Be well and enjoy ALL!
Cathy
P.S. Please post if you find a way also.

Deb, This is something that had been buggine me for quite some time. I believe it has something to do with the options that Proshow uses or doesn't use in conjunction with the flash output. I loathe that white bar as it has a very tacky look in my opinion. I too am researching and will let you know if a light goes off for me.

Also, I am trying to figure out how to put a drop shadow to my video display in the .html that I create. Any clues?

Good day

I don't have DW (dream weaver?).

I just used Producer to created the flash show with Mpg4 option and was pretty happy with that except for the lack of slider controls. If it's a show uploaded to YouTube and embedded in my blog, that has slider. But for some shows, I don't want any association with YouTube and just want to upload them to my server and point people to the link. This is a way to keep it private and not have to deal with the YouTube logo, etc.

Also wonder if there's a way to give the viewer the option to play the flash version full screen too once the show is loaded - sort of like the YouTube full screen option in the lower right corner.

I have no clue how to do that. I don't really know how to code html or CSS. But I was able to figure out how to edit the html page to change the Photodex branding at the bottom of the page to my own copyright info. Not sure if you or anyone else noticed that under the show display. But I don't want to advertise Photodex on my site if I'm supplying a video service to a customer just so they can go out and buy it themselves.

There again Deb, that is either options that PS is not giving us in the output or we are going to have to learn the .swf coding to make those things happen. Wow, now I am going to hve to really start researching. I had put it to the back burner but now that I am not the only one "wanting" these things, I will have to work harder. All my shows are flash and all these issues have come to me. I will work diligently in the near future and get back to you.

As I was typing this you came in with a response to my previous...I do not use the .html that is generated with the flash output. I embed the .swf into my own .html files for my site. If you go to my site you will see how I use the .html. There is no branding what so ever or even resemblance. If you need help with the .html for these private links, just hollar at me. At the least we could add some flair for you.

In the near future, I may be associating these flash shows with a separate business site of mine. I like using a blog for it's simplicity to add new stuff and because it's instantly searchable.

Does anyone know what is pasted into the blog post box to get the show to appear in a blog post (without using YouTube or other video sites)? I think I tried three different file path things in the blog box to point the the show but none of them seemed to work.

You should be able to copy and paste the .swf object from the html that is created for you. Then you would upload the mp4 and the .swf to your server as well.

I tried pasting each one of the files created by Producer - the mp4, the swf and the html. None of them would work. (Yes I included the whole path ). Still possible I'm doing something wrong I suppose - just don't have a clue what that would be!

Okay, if you open the .html in some type of editor you will see the .swf object (yellow box) hilight that and copy. That is what controls the video to be played. So, if you copy the .swf and embed that into your blog it will then play the video. But you do have to upload that actually .swf file and the mp4 to your server in order for the embeded .swf object to find the video and play it.
