Best Video Resolution for ProShow

Postby des.tom on Sat Jul 24, 2010 8:40 am

I've just purchased - delivered yesterday! - a Camcorder - Canon HF20. This is HD with the option of two video resolutions: 1920 x 1080 or 1440 x 1080 but I understand it is possible to save out in SD format which I THINK is what is required by ProShow at present. Would welcome any advice from video users on the best resolution for use in ProShow Gold and any links to articles/tutorials on incorporating video into PSG.

Thanks in anticipation.

Des,
If your hardware is up to the challenge, ProShow will handle Full HD output. What should be your determining factor is what do you plan on playing the final output on? If a Full HD then go for the 1920 x 1080, or perhaps you have a 720P setup. Some of us are stuck with standard definition for awhile. So generate what matches your output device.

Remember that if you want to show HD from a player, you will need a Blu-Ray burner or use a workaround to put limited content on a standard dvd.

I would shoot at the highest resolution you can. Even if you can't currently use that for output. This way when you do get HD TV's, etc. you have the higher resolution video available to update you show.

Also, you should be able to size the video to whatever you need in ProShow (just like you can zoom still images) so you can control the size that way.

But, I am big believer in future proofing my projects.

Nice camcorder by the way. Had the previous model until I got my Canon EOS 7D which does all the video I need.

Thanks Vernon & Robert for your responses. Looks like I'll need to experiment until the prices of bluray drives and recorders become more realistic.

Regards.

You don't need blu-ray. Just make sure to film in the highest resolution so that in the future you have the quality for the use you may need.

I have a blu-ray burner and don't see much point. I also don't think the media is very reliable. I wouldn't use it for backup. Commercially pressed discs are far different than consumer.
