Flying To Globe & Driving Map

Postby macman2006uk » Sun Jul 29, 2007 9:27 pm

Hi Everyone:
Having just got back from my USA 2007 vacation, into Alaska, driving up to Artic Circle and back, also fly back to lower 49, for a driving tour around west coast USA.

What I was looking for in my new show is, is it possible to show an animated flight between UK/USA, and internal USA?
ALSO
A map of USA with (lets say a red line moving along route of map I used, for getting from A to B) showing route I took?
Of course these may be used for each section of route/tour I used?

I have not been on forum for a long time, as I had bad accident at work, recovering well now, and of course my USA 2007 vacation, I am now ready to get back into some good PSG work.

I have noticed now that alot of our top members are posting step by step tutorials, wich is a great help, "Keep Up The Good Work"

Cheers:
John Mac.

I recall viewing a show here that used something simular to what you are discribing. The link is below but you must watch most of it as the examples within are spread throughout the show, The first example being about one or two minutes into it.

Here's a similar effect done in Producer but could be reproduced in PSG using multiple slides.

Cheers Nannybear, Barbara & Hardsoftware.
Thanks for posting the links, I will look over during course of the evening.
Need to fathom out if I need any third party applications to help me along, and hopefully by the weekend I can get something created using ideas.
Cheers

John Mac,

An excellent source of attractive looking maps is NASA World Wind. It's a free application.

One thing you might want to check out is blufftitler -- quite a number of people
in the video editing camp use it and are happy with it. It also has a plugin
called Bixelangelo that the demo looks very interesting -- it will record your
"drawing" with time associated with your points then play it back again. You
could use a graphics tablet etc. to draw your route including funny stops, getting
lost etc then play that back as an overlay. I have not played with it yet, but
it looked very interesting. Take a look at the Blufftitler page at
http://www.blufftitler.us/ then go to the "Bixelangelo" page and look at the
example for "Attached Picture" and view the animation example.

Really depends on how sophisticated you want to get. I've done simple versions of that several times and I was happy with the result. Basically, the "trick" is just using several slides to build up the map with lines being added one at a time as layers. The lines were drawn in an editor with transparent backgrounds and then revealed using various directions of the "wipe" style of transition. Not fancy but it worked and I could do it quickly and with nothing more than what I had.

Hi Barbara/Mikey/Dick:
Having a good look around, and yes dick think I can do the simple version in Adobe Photoshop CS, could be a quick and easy way, but mikey love some of the features in " Blufftitler & Bixelangelo" for the price they may come in usefull for new & future projects, and thanks barbara for the "NASA World Wind", map link.
Sure plenty to go on this week.
Well its time to prepare for work.
