Going from PSG to PSP

Postby Jerry Cole » Tue Aug 07, 2007 2:21 pm

It has probably been discussed before, but I will ask anyway. (couldn't find a thread)

I have read the comparison differences between PSG and PSP and wonder how steep the learning curve is for making that move?

Don't get me wrong, I love PSG and I'm not considering a change right now, but some of the features are enticing. Although not a pure beginner, I am a relative Newbie compared to the real Pros that inhabit this esteemed venue.

Many of you probably have done this in the past, and maybe some of you continue to use both for different things. Really like to have your input on the reasons why you chose to go to PSP or stay with PSG. Not really looking for a Poll, just curious about personal choices.

Thanks in advance .... I know you will set me straight!

At the time I went with PSP the biggest thing was layers which you have now. Keyframes are really cool ( although the drive you crazy!) and some of the video transparency stuff. Cheers Jan

Thanks Jan,
I have only used PSG 3.0 so I guess I take the layers things for granted... If it didn't have layers I probably would have gone directly to PSP. The opacity and transparency feature adds a lot for me, but that one can work around. How about the issue of caption timing? Does that work easily in PSP? I do not use ProShow professionally in any respect, but I do want the best shows I can produce, even when they are just for my own pleasure.

Thanks for your response,
Jerry

Caption timing and keyframing are the hardest learning curve. That said Jennifer Weeks ( choicebackgrounds) has an excellent tutorial you can purchase that will help with that. You might want to download the evalutaion and just play with it to see what it has to offer. Cheers Jan

Recently my 9 year old granddaughter watched me putting together a slide show in producer. I am just an amatuer and slow learner. I had PSG also so decided to give her that copy. After the first day she put together slide shows on her own with no instructions. I mentioned that you could make the pictures move and spin. She wanted to try my producer. I gave her the manual and said go for it. 1/2 day later she had learned how to use different transitions and had the pictures doing all kinds of things. She even burned the results to dvd. That was when she discovered her parents computer didn't have a dvd burner. She was so disappointed that yesterday I went out and bought her one and installed it. She now knows more about producer (in about 2 weeks time) than I do except that I understand keyframing (from my days with Premiere Pro)and she does not. I bet before the summer is over she will master that. She figured out how to add music on her own also. Amazing. So I have decided just to sit back and wait for her to be an expert and then have her teach me. What gets me is that at 9 she can understand the manual and I at 63 have problems.

That and the fact their brains are not full of useless junk like
"how am I going to pay that bill", "what do I need to get done
for the meeting tomorrow", and all that kind of junk :?

You are absolutely right there. She does not know the meaning of "I can't do it".
