Contrasting Colors Entry - alcain

Postby alcain » Fri Sep 21, 2007 9:42 am

This is my entry. Nothing real fancy. I usually prefer to rely on the images and sounds of a show to "tease the senses" so to say.

But you have a job to do while watching it...

You have to guess what it is...

The show begins colorfully and (Imagine this - contrasty) with seemingly abstract images. Actually ALL of the images were taken with my D40
of the item in question. You have to try to guess what the item IS, before I finally reveal it near the end. The item was just something I spied
in my refrigerator and I couldn't help but to notice all of the "contrasting colors" associated with it. I'm not really trying to "win" a contest
with this show - I just (as always) do the best I can with what I've got to work with".

Most of all, I hope you enjoy this presentation of... Contrasting Colors

Al,
That was great! The music and "mystery" went perfectly. I couldn't figure it out until I saw the Purina symbol. Nice job. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice -- obviously having a good time with that macro lens :D

Very well put together - shows how what looks like one thing is
really a bunch of "other" things (in this case color).

This turned out really good Al. Purrrfectly done in your "Discovery" style.

I am so amazed at how all those dots in combined primary colors can come out looking as good as they do!

Hi Al,

Thanks for your show.
I loved the macro photography and how different colours became visible the closer you got to the actual picture.
Good job!

Macro Shots

Postby alcain » Fri Sep 21, 2007 1:46 pm

Mikey, actually I took the pictures with my Nikon Bellows. I/m not sure if a macro lens can get that close, that clear. I wasn't even near as close as I could have gotten, but filling the frame with just one of those 'dots' would be pretty boring. Below is a photo of my setup with the D80 mounted on the bellows. The pictures in the show were with the D40 mounted as seen.

Hello Al,
That's contrast is right. I thought this show was very well done, I liked it. There is only one problem that I can see... There is not enough equipment in your studio. You could probably buy some more stuff. Now I have to show this to my wife. I only wanted to buy one lens...

Regards and wishing you the best,
Douglas

Nice setup Al, but I have a bit of a problem getting some of my favorite
"macro subjects" to go along with a rig like that ...

Douglas, You should see the part of my work table that isn't in the picture! Then there is my darkroom side with two enlargers and all of that paraphanalia... Then there is my computer desk with dual monitors, and all of my sound engineering equiptment...

The ONLY reason my wife lets me buy my equiptment, is because I use it to pay for itself. When I do a large wedding, I may buy a piece of equiptment I need. When I sell my band portraits, I may buy another. Rarely do I ever use 'household' money for any of my equiptment - but if I do, I always give my wife the next big check I get from one of my clients.

...and then there is my woodworking...

Mikey, Nice macro shots. If I shoot insects, I always use the catch 'em put 'em in the freezer for an hour method. They come out in a frosted daze and will let me 'pose' them for about half an hour... (Nice lens, by the way)

Douglas -- actually, those were hand held with my Sigma 70-300 macro zoom
($200) lens. Trying to shoot them is tough since nothing holds still and
your depth of field is very shallow if you are using a decent shutter speed.
I got a bunch like that. One of my "shows to do" is a whole bunch of
pictures of bees and birds to the music of Jewel Aiken(?) "Let me tell you
about the birds and the bees" :D
