presentations containing music from the defunct library

Postby PLM » Wed Sep 09, 2020 6:11 am

I have used PSP for a number of years to create promotional material for local small businesses and community projects.
Many of these need updating on an annual basis.
Those containing music from the library will no longer load as the program cannot connect to the online source it just goes in circles.

I have two questions:

1 Is there any known work around to stop the loop
2 Does anyone know where the link is within the code. If this could be located a different source could be applied.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi: one suggestion might be to disconnect from the internet and then try loading a show. If you are connected, Producer will try the link you
mention. If you are not connected, Producer may not even try the link and just load the show with "missing" warnings for the music,
in which case you could then substitute alternatives. I am not saying this will work but I cannot think of any other ideas.

I was thinking along the same lines.
Just that instead of "substituting alternatives", I think that the missing audio must be deleted first. Otherwise, each time that he tries to load that show, Producer will keep looking for the missing file.
So, fist delete, then insert a new audio track.

Thanks for all the help.

I have PSP on an old stand alone desk top.
I will try to load it on there and let you know if it works.

Much appreciated

Just an update but a further problem developed.
Disconnected from internet.
opened PSP and then the 120 years of Porthleven Football History show.
This was created on a previous version so agreed the update which was OK
Indicated some files were missing - do you want to search for files - NO
Show loaded this time.
Deleted all audio tracks and then added back the ones from PC only and saved.
Tried to publish to DVD for widescreen TV program crashed and shut itself down.
Rebooted pc just in case.
Back to some files are missing - NO
show loaded and played. No files were missing.
Tried to publish and it just crashed again.
Starting to think the PSP gods are having fun with me.
If there is anyone who knows where to locate the music link in the code, it would probably be possible to change the link to something active.
Does anyone know which music supplier PSP was actually licenced to?
Thanks Guys.

Photodex' music license came from AudioMicro. I don't know if all of the music tracks came from that company, but many of them did.
If you want to look for the code for the music track, you can search in the psh file. A psh file is just a text file that tells the program what pieces to put together. You can rename it with the extension .txt and open it in Notepad, do the editing of the text (if you can :D ) and then rename it back as psh, and open it again in ProShow.

I don't know why after saving the show with the new audio, the program still reported missing files. Maybe you should have saved the show without any audio first, and then insert the new tracks and save again. Just a thought.

Now to the crashing part, or as I call it, the vanishing act.
Yes, it is something that happens to me too, unfortunately, when I try to publish to video, or any other kind of final output. Other people have reported here the same issue.
Don't know why this is happening.
People here have suggested reinstalling the program after cleaning the registry, and reentering the registration key. Don't know if this solves the problem or not, as I haven't tried it myself yet.

Thanks Mona, I will try your suggestions.
I will open the show again and delete all the audio and save a copy.
I will also see if it will publish without crashing having done so.

I have already attempted to find the link but failed, I thought it may have been encrypted.
If I find anything I will let you know.

I hope we can all keep this working as it was a great bit of kit for my charity work.

regards

Mike
