vignette tutorial?

Postby lindonalta » Wed Dec 09, 2009 12:23 pm

Can you create a vignette with PSG? If so can some one point me in the right direction as to a tutorial somewhere.
If not in PSG do you need a photo editing program to do this? I have looked at some editing programs and they seem just to complicated for me.

PSG does not have the vignette feature - only Producer.

There are a number of other tools besides the vignette feature included with Producer that make it easy to do stuff without a 3rd party application. The Photodex website has a comparison chart of the two products if you want to look at it there.

As Deb says, not in PSG. Yes, you can do that in most photo editing programs.

And while PSP can do that, the learning curve is, I think, not trivial for either PSP or an editor and, in fact, I think you would have a greater payback on learning the basics of an editor. The payback for the time and effort is high and to make good use of something like PSP it really needs the same kinds of skills and knowledge used in an editor. That's less true for PSG -- you can make shows, even good ones without ever using an editor. But it's still true that you'll not get the most out of the slide show program if you don't understand the basic image editing concepts. And the extra power of PSP would, in my opinion, would not be helpful (might even be in the way).

What did you want to use the vignette function to do? there might be another way to get the effect you want.

If you decide to purchase Photo Editng software, try the latest version of Photoshop Elements which is not expensive (about $90) but has many of the features of the full blown Photoshop CS4. It's enough to be able to do what you want I would think.

Either way, you'll have a learning curve which means time and effort spent no matter which piece of software you choose. That's something you can't avoid.

There are also a couple free alternatives to commercial image editors. One is GIMP, but unfortunately, the name of the other isn't coming to mind.

For a quick way of doing it (and a bit of shameless self-promotion on my part), there's a vignette set at The Frame Locker: http://www.theframelocker.com/vignettes.html

Can there be any Vignette tutorials on YouTube?
I'd love to watch some of them.
