Burned DVD will not play on computer

Postby suzafone » Mon Apr 15, 2019 11:29 am

I've just burned a show successfully, plays fine on our TV but not on my computer --- freezes up. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with:

"Burning - DVD&R/RW Compatability" this has changed since the last time I burned a show. What used to automatically come up was "Ricon" and I never changed it. But now there are several choices. What automatically comes up now is "Unknown", but you can choose that or BenQ, Lite-On, Plextor and Ricon. I chose Ricon seeing that's what I always did, finished the burning, tried to play the DVD on my computer and it's not working, kind of locking up the photos (though music plays as it should). I am using DVD-R discs, same ones I've used in the past with no problems.

I think you are referring to Bitsetting. If so It only is applicable to DVD+R not DVD-R see below from Manual

DVD+R/RW Compatibility is where you can enable a feature called
Bitsetting. Bitsetting is a feature that tricks DVD players into thinking that
you are using a stamped disc, like those manufactured for movies, rather
than a burned disc from your PC. This can help ensure that your disc will
work in most all players.

It’s important to know that Bitsetting only works if you’re using a DVD+R or
DVD+RW disc (not DVD-R or DVD-RW discs). If you’re using the correct disc
and your DVD burner supports the use of the feature, ProShow will
automatically use it for you. There is never any need to manually change
the setting.
In the Troubleshooting pane, you'll find information and general
troubleshooting steps to take if you have any difficulty creating a disc.
