Producer and the Apple M1 chip

Postby niknelb » Mon Dec 06, 2021 6:38 am

Posted for information only rather than advice sought[*]

I have been using Proshow Producer since 2007 - initially on Windows PCs but for the past ten years on macs using Parallels Desktop to run the latest Windows version. Recently I upgraded to a macBook Pro with the Apple M1 chip. Parallels Desktop worked seamlessly on it and I upgraded my Windows version to Windows 11. That must put me in a very small proportion of the number of people still actively using PP.

Producer seems to work fine but with one exception. If I use a cross-fade(blend) transition the color palette of the merged images seem to be very distorted and the transition becomes more of a jump rather than a fade.

Here's the before, after, and cross-faded images of a sample show.

Well, that's back to the old macBook I thought but then I tried publishing the test show as an MPEG-4 file and it ran perfectly. So that gives me several more years of using Producer - in my view the best slideshow app that there has ever been.

[*]Naturally, if anyone knows the magic button to press to make the color blending work correctly that would, of course, be an added bonus ;-)

Congratulations on the M1, it looks like a great computer to work with.

But if I look at the example then this seems to me to be a graphics problem.

I don't know anything about the apple M1 chip but you could try a different sort of picture ?
change the picture You used.

You may be using JPG now but try an other format picture ?

---------------------------------

Photo and Image Formats

.BMP Windows Bitmap image

.DNG Adobe Digital Negative

.GIF Compuserve Graphic

.ICO Windows Icon

.JPEG JPEG image

.JPG JPEG image

.PNG Portable Network Graphic

.PSD Adobe Photoshop image

.PSP Jasc PaintShop Pro image

.RLE Windows Bitmap image

.TIF Tagged Image File

.TIFF Tagged Image File
---------------------------------

or reduce the used image to 256 colors.... as a try

Just an idea.....

Have fun with Proshow ( the best program so far) on the old MacBook and very happy holidays despite all the worries about COVID

Sorry for the late replay ..

Good thought but I've just tried two png files (pretty universal) and got the same distorted coloration.

Have a good time tomorrow.
